Big Sister, Little Sister

I have three great sisters, two older and one younger. My younger sister Amy and I have always been really close. As her older sister, I have always felt a need to protect her, give her advice, be her shoulder to cry on, etc.
Five years ago, she and her husband Ryan moved to Maryland so that he could attend medical school. He is now in his first year of neurosurgery residency, Amy is working as a speech therapist in a school for kids with special needs, and they have a beautiful daughter, Lily who will be two in May. I miss having her close by to talk to all the time. I wish that our kids could get together and play. I do, know however that she is where she needs to be right now.
Last Wednesday, my mom and I flew out to Maryland to spend some time with them. We had such a great time! Amy is an amazing mom and, as her older sister, I have to say I learned SO much from her. Lily is so polite, independent and easy going and I know that Amy's influence as a mother has had so much to do with that. Ryan is also so busy as a resident that Amy hardly ever sees him. I know it is hard on her. I also know it is hard on him. However, I am so proud of how she is able to accomplish everything she does. She has really been able to create a life of her own, away from everything and everyone familiar to her. She has done an amazing job. And I am so, so proud of her.

While we were there, she even took the time to make us a Valentine's breakfast, complete with heart shaped pancakes and a little bag of Valentine's treats. I miss her so much! Amy, thank you for such a great time! I am so very proud of you and I love you so much!

Amy IS amazing. I don't know how she does it! I'm so glad you guys got to go visit.

Also, I love to hear about the sister relationships in your family (seeing how we're about to welcome our fourth girl!). I hope our set of 4 sisters end up as good of friends as all the sisters in yours!

Oh Lizzy! I miss you so much and learn so much from you...someday I hope to have 3 kiddos and when I'm freaking out and wondering what I have done I will know who to call.

Motherhood is tricky business. Aren't we so blessed to have each other to rely on no matter how far away we are from each other? Blessed indeed. Love you Liz!

Okay, I am the luckiest Mom and Grandma in the whole wide world! What I treat to be in Washington D.C. with our two youngest dauhters and our youngest Grandchild! (Oh, Ryan is wonderful, too but we hardly saw the poor guy...residency is very time-consuming and physically draining...I don't think he sleeps more than 3 or 4 hours a night. However, I did get invited to go shopping with him and little LIly the day I flew home. It was soooo fun. He picked out the cutest outfit for Lily! He really enjoys shopping! Lizzy, I'm glad we could share that time with the Roberts family...aren't they the best?
