4th of July!

Believe it or not, I made this cake!

This year we had a great 4th filled with family and fun! We started the morning off at the Annual Granite breakfast and parade with Grandma Jani, Papa Dan and Zach and Becca and their kids. This was the first time our little family has gone to it and it was great! Our kids got invited along with their cousins to sit in a Thomas the Train and actually be a part of the parade. They were thrilled! The highlight for me was meeting Kelsey Nixon who is a contestant on "The Next Food Network Star." She is marrying someone in the Granite stake and I walked up to her and told her what a great job I think she is doing on the show! (For those of you who haven't watched yet, you should. I love the Food Network!)

After the parade and naps, we went up to our my sister Monica's house in Kaysville for a family BBQ! They have a great backyard with a trampoline, basketball court, firepit, etc. The kids were in heaven. They had so much fun playing with their cousins and eating delicious food! I made an America Flag cake from the Barefood Contessa cookbook. It was quite the endeavor on my part but it ended up looking and tasting great, if I don't say so myself! After dinner and playing, we lit some fireworks which scared most of the kids. Parker, however, LOVED them. After they would go off he would say "Wow!" He had no problem at all with the noise! All in all, we had a great holiday. I am so thankful to live here in America and have all of the freedoms we enjoy!

I'm trying to hold back the tears! The 4th looked like so much fun, I only wish we could have been there! Liz, that cake was incredible! Are you going to make that a tradition? I think you should! We loved the Thomas the Train pictures and can tell how proud Ellie and Luke were! We are still cheering cute Kelsey Nixon on! So did you get any idea of the outcome from talking to her? I think the Food Network needs the younger edge, that is something they don't have! Love you and we can't wait to see you soon!

Your cake turned out great! I love Barefoot Contessa. Sam wore the same shirt as Luke on the 4th.
