A Fish Is A Fish...or Maybe A Cow?

Today, Luke and Ellie had their first dance performance. They take at South Valley Creative Dance. Before any of you read that again, yes, Luke took dance this year with Ellie. I am having a hard time as a mother of twins separating them into different activities when they really want to be together! Luke has now, however, made the decision on his own, that he doesn't want to take dance anymore.

Anyway, back to the performance. This year, the theme of the concert was "Dancing the Stories of Leo Lionni." For those of you who have never read his children's books, I would highly recommend them. They teach real life lessons and I love them! Luke and Ellie and many other students got to tell the story "Fish Is Fish." It is about a fish and a tadpole who are best friends. As they grow, the tadpole discovers he is growing legs as the fish is staying the same. The tadpole eventually turns into a frog and leave the pond to go explore the world. The fish stays in the water, the only place he will ever know. One day, the frog returns to the pond and tells the fish about all the amazing things he has seen. Among them, people, birds and cows. The fish imagaines what these things must look like, but since he has never seen anything outside of the water, he sees people fish, bird fish and cow fish. The fish longs to get out of the water and one day, jumps out and lands on the bank where he struggles to breath. The frog comes along and saves him, pushing him back in the water. Once he catches his breath, he decides that he is happy where he is and that it is o.k. to be a fish.

Luke and Ellie got to be cow fish. They have been practicing their dance for weeks. Before the performance today, I told them that we would be in the audience watching them. It was the cutest and funniest thing I have ever seen! When they came out on stage, everything started out smoothly. They both had huge smiles on their face and started doing the dance. Then, suddenly, Luke realized there were people watching. He stopped everything, and ran to the front of the stage and started looking for us. We were laughing so hard! He walked from one end of the stage to the other, but couldn't find us. By the time he got back into "dance mode" their dance was almost over! Poor Ellie! I didn't even see much of her because I was watching Luke! I wish I had it on video!

We weren't allowed to video their dances because of copyright laws, but here is some video of them during the finale. The quality isn't that great, but it is priceless to watch! I was so proud of them!

To my dear little cowfish from Grandma Suzi: "You were such amazing cowfish! I'm so glad I could be in the audience to watch you...and Luke, don't worry, we were all there watching you look for mommy and daddy....did you find them? I love you both so much...it reminded me of all the dance recitals Grandma and Grandpa went to to watch your mommy dance!

That's priceless. The cutest thing about little kid dance recitals is how much they DON'T dance. The costumes are adorable.
