I don't know why, but it seems every year around Mother's Day, I start feeling discouraged about the job I'm doing as I mother. This year was no exception. Yesterday, Ellie told me she wished she didn't have a mommy, the kids laughed in my face when I tried to discipline them, and of all things, I started feeling guilty about not spending enough time in the NICU with my twins (five years ago!)
Today, however, was a much better day. It was one of those pay back days- pay back for all of the thankless jobs moms do. Luke and Ellie had a Mother's Day program at school today. When we walked in for the program Luke told me, "Mom, you are going to cry." They sang some adorable songs. One was about having a little red box to keep their mommy in. Then they could pull her out and give her a kiss and a hug whenever they wanted to. After the songs, each child had filled out a form called "I know my mother well" and Mrs. Hawes read a little portion about each child's mother. I am amazed at how well my kids really know me. Some of their answers made me realize how much they really do love and appreciate the things I do for them. I love these little people so much and feel so blessed to be their mommy.
Here are the answers they gave on their forms-
LUKE-
1. My mom looks prettiest on Church days.
2. My mom's favorite food is salad. She eats a lot of it, but I don't know if it's her favorite food.
3. My mom's eyes are green.
4. My mom likes to take us places.
5. She is happy when we help her clean up.
6. My mom is ? years old. (She is way to big for me to know.)
7. If my mom could go anywhere she would go every place with my dad.
8. Her best friend is Heidi and Jenny Ann
9. Her job is to get us food, put us to bed.
10. I love my mom because I've loved her since I was born.
ELLIE-

2. My mom's favorite food is salad.
3. My mom's eyes are green.
4. My mom likes to take care of us.

Awwww...I love those little kid questionnaires.
I think you're a GREAT mom!!! I'm glad you enjoyed the program. It's fun to see how much the kids really do appreciate us!
Just so you know--I have always looked up to you and think you are one of the greatest moms I know. I used to watch you at swimming lessons and you were so patient--getting everyone dressed as I barked at my kids.
I hope my NICU experience wasn't what triggered your guilt for five years ago. I also remember you having both a c-section and vaginal birth for crying out loud!
Anyway, Happy Mother's Day Liz--I love you!
